FIRST HOT WATER SUBMETER APPROVED IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA Conservice Metering Solutions and Master Meter proudly announce the introduction of the Conservice Metering Solutions "Cal Hot" meter, the first and only California approved hot water flow meter. The Cal Hot may be purchased in three sizes, 5/8x3/4 inch, straight ¾ inch and 1 inch. All three of the meters have been approved for consumption and commercial billing of a user's hot water up to 140 degrees F. Each meter will be made of environmentally safe Envirobrass which complies with Prop. 65 standards. Cal Hot's can be ordered with or without electric output to be used with radio frequency communications equipment for AMR submeter systems. Property owners, developers and property managers have been waiting a long time for an approved hot water submeter. This meter will provide economic development and maintenance cost relief in several ways. The cost to develop a multiple dwelling unit property is less when using a boiler system to deliver hot water for domestic consumption compared to individual hot water heaters. Further, the annual operational maintenance cost of a boiler is less than operational cost of individual hot water heaters. Combine these construction and maintenance cost savings tips with the fact a boiler system requires less overall square footage compared to hot water heaters. Square footage previously used for hot water heaters can then be used to allow the developer the opportunity to increase overall project density. In California all measuring devices including submeters, used for the billing of water, gas or electricity must first be "Type" approved by the Department of Weights and Measures. Conservice Metering Solutions's certification of the Cal Hot meter allows billing based on consumption of hot water using a submeter. As of the first of January 2005, Conservice Metering Solutions's Cal Hot water flow meter has been "Type" approved by the California Department of Weights and Measures and is being made available for commercial billing users for their hot water consumption. As with any "Type" approved flow meter, each new Cal Hot meter must be certified by the State of California through regional county departments of Weights and Measures for accuracy. Additionally each meter must also be registered to a specific site before the meters can populate a specific property. Certification and registration by the regional departments of Weights and Measures is time conditional and re-certification of each meter must be obtained periodically. Together with periodic certifications, owners are required to pay a registration service fee annually on the entire population of submeters. Any meter installed in the State of California, no matter hot or cold water, gas or electric must be placed in service by a certified and licensed service agent and agency. Any hot water meter purchased will be sent first to a regional department of Weights and Measures for certification and registration to a specific property.
